FORGE YOUR OWN KNIFE

There are many roots that stem into my passion for making knives, and among them is the reality that this craft maintains the torch that lit the dawn of time. Since the beginning, human beings needed edged tools to survive and much like building fire, tool-making set us apart from any other living organism and still does to this day. Before the overwhelming modern advances in automation, technology, and production one had to find or make the tools they needed and it's what used make us strong. Making your own knife is your shot at experiencing the old way of willing something to be, using your own hands to make it, and using it to your own benefit thereafter. It's an archaic and understated connection that I think every human should experience at least once.... it overhauled the way I look at the world around me and the role I play within it. I want to share this with you!

I proudly offer instruction in bladesmithing, sharpening, and leather work and tailor each dynamic experience to suit your take-away desires. I recognize most folks are not looking to become hobby-makers and so have designed a 101 level knife making adventure of three separate three-hour(ish) sessions that include design, forging, hand-fit material selection and finishing. An immersive six-class series is available to those wanting to execute each step of the process- this one goes deep and is recommended for the more informed enthusiast or hobby-maker looking to refine skills.

Prices run $50/hour for sharpening or leather instruction, $550 for the three-part experience, or $1750 for the deep dive. These figures are relatively firm, but may fluctuate to accommodate a participant's requests like exotic material upgrades, etc.  Non-refundable full payment is required to schedule and the credit can be applied as a gift card to any offerings from Cunningham Custom Shop in lieu of instruction. With clear communication skills, I assure layman clarity and cohesion every step of the way. Failure to make a quality knife is an extremely unlikely outcome, but just as well I guarantee that participants will leave my class with a dependable knife, no matter what
