The Mermaid Knife

$595.00Price
  • I simply cannot relay how much love I have for this knife. Every curve and angle from the tip to the end of the tail is sublime. She sings a beautiful song and will draw you in, but she is lethal! The blade is forged from 52100 ball bearing steel and it measures 6” from tip to guard with a razor sharp three dimensional convex grind. Ed Fowler teaches an extensive heat treat cycle that, paired with the tedious and time-consuming forging process, ensures an advanced grain structure that pushes the limits of what was previously understood possible and further yields a beautiful hairlike grain that flows with the blade shape- just take a closer look! These lines you see in the steel are evidence of the forging, quenching and heat treat cycles- it’s the proof of the work. The brass guard took a few hours to mill, file and forge for a fused fit. It’s staked to the tang and then I use just a little bit of silver-solder to fill any gap. Black vulcanized fiber spacers encase inverted Willow Bow Sheep horn for a gorgeous brush stroke natural figure above the dancing mermaid mama handle. It looks good, but it actually feels good. The tail brings the overall length to measure 14 1/2”… never practical on a hip, but I believe she’s a using knife so I made a pack style sheath, forgoing belt loops but giving it a stout cover “that could kill”. I marked the blade with GC and stamped the sheath with my Jolly Cunninghammer stamp 100% guaranteed for life.
